About differences between knowledge from experience and from books.

It's an extremely burning question which knowledge is more useful. I know many people who had wasted many years to learn some naked facts, historical events etc from books, but when they began working they realised that they should have learned again! I think that despite this sad example the book knowledge is useful however it isn't so obviously. Let me explain. I think that knowledge we get from books make our brains more flexible and efficient. I mean we improve our brain and ability to analize all around us! For example, my secondary education was in one field of science, the graduating was in the second one and now I'm working in the third field of science. I can say that at work I need to get new knowledge from experience but if I hadn't got book knowledge I would not realise this new work knowledge.
So I think that all of these types is useful, just for different goals.
